Abstract

A Comparative Study on Work-Based Higher Education in France, Germany and USA: A Commentary

Lukas Graf1*, Anna P. Lohse2, Nadine Bernhard2

With the rise of the global knowledge economy, traditional
configurations between Higher Education (HE), industry and
the state have shifted in many countries. The ‘Entrepreneurial
University’ has taken on a central role in the production of
innovative technologies and economic growth, increasingly
establishing business links and engaging in commercial activities
with country-dependent degrees of state involvement [1]. We can
also observe an expansion of university-business cooperation in
the form of strategic alliances for cooperative research university
spin-offs academic engagement in knowledge and technology
transfer, or joint university-industry laboratories [2,3]. However,
one expanding type of cooperation between universities and the
world of work has remained largely underexplored [4].
