Abstract

Exploring the Potential of accurate Genome Editing

Isabella Y Chen

In the field of biotechnology, genome editing stands out as a transformative tool that potential to revolutionize our understanding of genetics and its practical applications in various fields. Genome editing allows scientists to make precise alterations to DNA within living organisms, offering unprecedented opportunities for advancements in medicine, agriculture, and beyond. At the forefront of genome editing technologies is Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR-Cas9), a system adapted from the bacterial immune system that has garnered immense attention for its simplicity, versatility, and efficiency. CRISPR-Cas9 consists of two main components: A guide RNA (gRNA) that directs the system to a specific sequence of DNA, and a Cas9 enzyme that acts as molecular scissors to cut the DNA at the targeted location. This capability enables researchers to edit genes by deleting, inserting, or modifying specific DNA sequences with remarkable precision.
