Abstract

Impact of Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Lupus

Yin Ko*

Lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, has various manifestations affecting different organs and systems in the body. Among these manifestations, Neuropsychiatric Lupus, or NPSLE, presents a significant challenge due to its intricate relationship between the immune system and the central nervous system. Neuropsychiatric Lupus refers to the neurological and psychiatric symptoms that occur in individuals with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). SLE is a multisystem autoimmune disease, where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues, causing inflammation and damage. While lupus can affect various parts of the body, NPSLE primarily targets the nervous system, leading to a wide range of neurological and psychiatric symptoms.
