Xerorstomia or dry mouth is common among older adults and may be caused by systemic diseases, medications and head and neck radiotherapy. Individuals with Xerostomia complain of problems with mastication, phonetics, deglutition and wearing dentures. Lack of saliva may predispose one to oral infections such as Candidiasis and increased risk of dental caries. Dentists should be able to diagnose this condition and administer appropriate treatment to provide acceptable level of comfort and function to their patients.
