Ahmed Elnabil

Biography

Dr. Ahmed Elnabil is a distinguished professor of surgery at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, specializing in bariatric and laparoscopic procedures. He graduated with distinction from Ain Shams University in 2001 and completed his surgical training there, earning his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Surgery. Dr. Elnabil further honed his expertise through fellowships in bariatric and endoscopic surgeries at the University of Milan, Italy, and the University of Dundee, Scotland. He is the only Egyptian surgeon to hold the European Board of Laparoscopic Surgery fellowship, the highest European surgical qualification. Additionally, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Dr. Elnabil is an active member of several medical associations, including the Egyptian and European Societies for Laparoscopic Surgery and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity. His research has significantly influenced bariatric surgery practices, particularly regarding the safety and efficacy of sleeve gastrectomy in patients with lower body mass indices. He has also pioneered single-incision laparoscopic surgeries, known as "bikini operations," which leave no visible scars. Dr. Elnabil's dedication to advancing surgical techniques and improving patient outcomes has established him as a leading figure in his field.

    Effect of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy on Clinical Hypothyroidism in Morbidly Obese Patients

    Background: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) has an increase in popularity as a definitive bariatric operation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate excess weight loss (EWL) and the change in thyroxin (T4) requirement in morbidly obese patients with clinical hypothyroidism after LSG. Methods: Between June 2012 and June 2015, 33 morbidly obese patients candidate for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy were enrolled in a prospective comparative study at Ain Shams University Hospitals, Egypt, and Muhayl National Hospital, Saudi Arabia.
