Biography

Dr. Goran V. Zorić, born on September 9, 1969, in Zagreb, is a distinguished general and endocrine surgeon at the Center for Endocrine Surgery, Clinical Center of Serbia, in Belgrade. He completed his medical education at the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Medicine, graduating in 1997. Dr. Zorić further specialized in general surgery, completing his residency between 1998 and 2004. He earned his Master's degree in 2010 with a thesis on prognostic factors in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma and obtained his Ph.D. in 2018, focusing on the biological behavior of follicular thyroid tumors. In 2017, he completed a subspecialization in endocrine surgery, analyzing the surgical treatment of combined thyroid and parathyroid diseases. Since 2004, Dr. Zorić has been a surgeon at the Center for Endocrine Surgery, performing over 4,000 endocrine surgeries, including thyroid and parathyroid procedures. He serves as the head of the operating block and intensive care unit. His professional affiliations include membership in the Serbian Society of Endocrine Surgeons since 2009, the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons since 2016, and the European Thyroid Association since 2018. Dr. Zorić has contributed to medical literature, authoring chapters on intermediate differentiated thyroid carcinomas in the textbook "Surgery of the Thyroid Gland" (2017) and on rare adrenal tumors in "Surgery of the Adrenal Gland" (2019). He has also co-authored numerous papers published in indexed journals and presented at scientific meetings.

    Background: To present for the first time a clinical case of a patient with giant neglected and exulcerated tall-cell papillary thyroid cancer, who was surgically treated. Methods: We report a case of a 73-year-old woman with large firm infiltrated and exulcerated anterior neck tumefaction (12 cm in diameter) clinically suspected as anaplastic thyroid cancer. Patient had a goiter for more than 20 years with rapid growth in last months, after that presented with infiltration and exulceration of the skin. Results: Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) revealed papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Total thyroidectomy with en-block dissection of the infrahyoid muscles and skin was performed.
