cLela Bakanidze works at the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (former Georgian Anti – Plague Station), with especially dangerous pathogens for about 30 years. Her Ph.D. thesis was on morphogenesis in mixed infections. Dr. Bakanidze was the head of the department of Biosafety and Bioterrorism Threat Reduction, Deputy Head of the Department of Especially Dangerous Infections. She is the author of more than 150 scientific articles and 1 monograph. Dr. Bakanidze for about 15 years was the leader of the group, which, after collapse of Soviet Union, was drafting new biosafety/biosecurity regulations in Georgia. For last 7 years she is national POC for BTWC in Georgia, she took part in the 6th Review Conference, and participated in all BTWC Meetings of Experts and Meetings of States Parties of 2007 – 2010 Work Program. Dr. Bakanidze is the President of Georgian Biosafety Association (GeBSA).
