Biography

Dr. Nahla Nader Adly is a lecturer in the Department of General Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Egypt. Her clinical expertise and research focus on endocrinology and metabolism, with particular attention to diabetes management and thyroid function. In 2018, Dr. Adly co-authored a study titled "Evaluation of Thyroid Functions in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis Before and After Treatment with Interferon Beta," published in the Journal of Thyroid Disorders & Therapy. This research investigated the impact of interferon beta therapy on thyroid function in multiple sclerosis patients, highlighting the importance of monitoring thyroid health during such treatments.     Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a multi-component disease characterized by inflammation, neurodegeneration and failure of central nervous system (CNS) repair mechanisms. Autoimmune thyroid disease is a frequently studied disorder in MS, most studies have focused primarily on the increased prevalence of thyroid dysfunction and anti-thyroid antibodies (ATAs) in MS patients compared with a control population. Objectives: To investigate the effect of treatment with interferon beta on thyroid functions and autoimmune thyroid markers in patients with multiple sclerosis.
