  Reference Values for Chest Expansion among Adult Residents in Ile-Ife

  Background: Chest excursion measurements are used to evaluate a patient’s baseline status, treatment effectiveness, and progression of disease with regards to chest wall mobility and respiratory muscle function, although current research regarding normal chest expansion measurements, consistent patient position and site of measurement is limited. This study was designed to access chest expansion of healthy adults resident in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Methods: Four hundred and twenty-eight (200 males, 228 females) volunteers were recruited for the study. Their age ranged between 20 and 70 years.
