He holds a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering (1985) from IIT Bombay and has Ph.D. (1992) from IIT Bombay in “Reciprocating Wind Machine”. He was associated with Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA), IIT Bombay, India. He is presently a Professor at IIT Bombay since 2013. He is also associated with Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA), IIT Bombay and is working on rural energy and other technologies. He is presently focussing on problem assessment, development and dissemination of small and affordable implements for performance improvement for traditional wood fired cook-stoves (Chulha) used in different regions of the country, solar dryers for agricultural produce and food, participative transition process to organic farming, processes for improving drinking water quality in rural areas and developing machines for drudgery reduction in rural areas he has been a recipient of many award and grants. His international experience includes various programs, contributions and participation in different countries for diverse fields of study. His research interests reflect in his wide range of publications in various national and international journals. He is the Editorial Board Member of reputed journals and serves as a member of various associations, apart from being an author for many books.
