Metabolic Syndrome

The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a constellation of interrelated risk factors of metabolic origin - metabolic risk factors - that appear to directly promote the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVDs). It consists of atherogenic dyslipidemia (elevated triglycerides and apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins and decreased high-density lipoproteins [HDL]), elevations of blood pressure (BP) and glucose, and prothrombotic and proinflammatory states.
