Dr. Cees Vermeer has received his PhD at Leiden University in 1973. Currently, he is working as Principal Investigator at the Cardiovascular Research Institute CARIM, Maastricht University. His research has included health aspects of vitamin K in bone and cardiovascular health, and the development of new diagnostics in the cardiovascular field. He has authored over 300 research articles and book chapters. In 2001 he has honoured as Doctor Honoris Causa at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Iuliu Hatieganu", Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
