Vladan Zivaljevic

Biography

Dr. Vladan Živaljević, born on December 16, 1967, in Čačak, Serbia, is a distinguished endocrine surgeon and the head of the Center for Endocrine Surgery at the Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade. He graduated from the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Medicine in 1993 with an average grade of 9.55 out of 10. Dr. Živaljević has performed over 3,000 surgeries, including more than 2,000 thyroid gland operations and approximately 500 parathyroid gland procedures. His clinical expertise encompasses comprehensive endocrine evaluations, thyroid ultrasounds, biopsies, and surgical treatments for parathyroid and adrenal gland disorders. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Živaljević has contributed to medical research. Notably, he co-authored a study on the survival and prognostic factors for adrenocortical carcinoma, providing valuable insights into this rare malignancy.

    Background: To present for the first time a clinical case of a patient with giant neglected and exulcerated tall-cell papillary thyroid cancer, who was surgically treated. Methods: We report a case of a 73-year-old woman with large firm infiltrated and exulcerated anterior neck tumefaction (12 cm in diameter) clinically suspected as anaplastic thyroid cancer. Patient had a goiter for more than 20 years with rapid growth in last months, after that presented with infiltration and exulceration of the skin. Results: Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) revealed papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Total thyroidectomy with en-block dissection of the infrahyoid muscles and skin was performed.
