Nigerian-United Nations (UN) Relations during Nigeria?s Fourth Republic: Challenges and Prospects, 1999-2007

This paper examined the diplomatic relations of Nigeria and the United Nations (UN) with respect to Nigeria’s
Fourth Republic between 1999 and the year 2007; and identified the challenges and prospects that were recorded
during the period under review (1999-2007). More importantly, it examined the diplomatic engineering adopted by
the then Nigerian Government to turn around the country’s battered image abroad. The National Interest theory was
adopted for this study. The methodology used for the study is secondary sources of data collection. The findings of
the study showed that during the period under review, Nigeria’s human right record improved drastically. Secondly,
the country stood outstanding in her financial contribution to the UN treasury which benefited the world
