Dr. Ali Vural is a molecular and cellular pharmacologist/biologist serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, and his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Pathobiology from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Vural completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Immunoregulation at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Bethesda, Maryland. He later served as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.Dr. Vural's research primarily focuses on the Activator of G-protein Signaling 3 (AGS3), a protein implicated in various physiological and pathological processes. His work explores AGS3's roles in eliminating craving behaviors associated with substance abuse (e.g., cocaine, heroin, ethanol, methamphetamine), resistance to high-fat diet-induced obesity, blood pressure regulation, combating antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, and modulating cyst progression in polycystic kidney disease.
