  In patients where anticoagulation therapy is contraindicated, Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filters are used as an option to prevent Pulmonary Embolism (PE). There are many classifications of Vena Cava filters the two main groups are; those intended for permanent implantation and the other temporary (which are to be retrieved at a later date).
