Metabolic Syndrome and Pre-Metabolic Syndrome among Health Care Workers in Yemen: Prevalence and Associated Risk Factors

Background: There is an increased prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) and its risk factors among Health Care
Workers (HCWs), which in turn contribute to the development of cardiovascular diseases. This increased prevalence
reached alarming levels of global health and socioeconomic concern. This study was conducted to determine the
prevalence of MetS and pre-Metabolic Syndrome (pre-MetS), as well as their components, among HCWs in Sana’a
City, Yemen.
Materials and Methods: This is an observational, cross-sectional study conducted between February and June 2021.
Two hospitals were randomly selected, one public (Al-Kuwait University Hospital) and one private (the University
