Biography

Dr. Elena Shumilina is a distinguished professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry at Zagazig University, renowned for her expertise in developing advanced analytical techniques to address critical challenges in environmental science, pharmaceuticals, and industrial chemistry. Her innovative research has significantly impacted the fields of spectroscopy, chromatography, and sensor development. Dr. Shumilina earned her B.Sc. in Chemistry from Lomonosov Moscow State University and completed her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at Saint Petersburg State University, Russia. Her doctoral research focused on spectroscopic methods for detecting trace levels of environmental pollutants, a groundbreaking study that enhanced the precision and applicability of environmental monitoring techniques. Following her Ph.D., she conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford, where she specialized in integrating chromatographic techniques with mass spectrometry. Since joining Zagazig University in 2014, Dr. Shumilina has spearheaded transformative research initiatives in analytical chemistry. Her work includes the development of portable sensors for real-time environmental monitoring, green analytical methods, and novel chromatographic techniques for pharmaceutical analysis. Her research has provided critical insights into sustainable practices and advanced detection technologies, making significant contributions to public health and environmental sustainability. Dr. Shumilina has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications in prominent journals, such as Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science & Technology, and TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry. She is also the co-editor of the book Innovative Analytical Methods for Emerging Challenges, which is widely used in academic and research institutions. Her contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Arab Analytical Chemistry Society Excellence Award and the Russian Chemical Society Medal for International Collaboration.
