Dr. José E. Barboza-Corona is a researcher and professor at the Universidad de Guanajuato, Mexico, within the Division of Life Sciences, Department of Food Science, located at the Irapuato-Salamanca campus. His research focuses on the study of bacteria and the biomolecules synthesized by these microorganisms. He utilizes bacteria as microbial cell factories to express proteins of biotechnological interest used in food, crop protection, veterinary, environmental, and biomedical applications. Additionally, he investigates the modular structure of various proteins to understand their functions and potential applications.

Staphylococcus agnetis: An Emergent Pathogen Isolated from Subclinical Mastitis with Capacity to Internalize into Bovine Mammary Epithelial Cells

Bovine mastitis is a multifactorial disease that produces important losses in livestock and dairy industry. One of the main factors that causes this disease are microorganisms such as Staphylococcus aureus, which has multiresistance to antibiotics and virulence factors such as its ability to internalize into bovine mammary epithelial cells (bMECs), which allows bacteria to evade the host's immune system and persist inside the cell. However, coagulasenegative Staphylococci (CNS) have a significant role as bovine mastitis pathogens. S. agnetis is an emergent CNS pathogen isolated from bovine mastitis, whose capacity to internalize into bMECs is unknown.
