Biography

Dr. Kim Hong is a distinguished researcher in the Department of Rehabilitation at Dongguk University in Seoul, South Korea. Her work focuses on advancements in pluripotent stem cell technology and their therapeutic implications. Dr. Hong explores the development and application of pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) in regenerative medicine. She discusses how PSCs, which have the ability to differentiate into any cell type, offer promising avenues for treating various diseases and injuries by enabling the regeneration of damaged tissues and organs.Dr. Hong's research delves into the methodologies for generating and manipulating PSCs, including induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), which are derived from adult cells reprogrammed to an embryonic-like state. She examines the challenges associated with ensuring the safety and efficacy of PSC-derived therapies, such as potential genetic abnormalities and immune rejection. Her work also highlights the ethical advantages of iPSCs over embryonic stem cells, as they circumvent controversies related to embryo destruction.
