Biography

Dr. Kymi Joaly Professor, Department of Pharmacy University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland Dr. Kymi Joaly is a distinguished professor and researcher in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Bern. Known for her innovative approaches to pharmaceutical sciences, Dr. Joaly has made significant contributions to drug delivery systems, pharmacokinetics, and personalized medicine. Dr. Joaly earned her B.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Geneva and her Ph.D. in Pharmacy from ETH Zurich. Her doctoral research focused on nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems, earning her recognition for developing efficient methods to improve drug bioavailability and reduce side effects. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, where she worked on targeted cancer therapies, Dr. Joaly joined the University of Bern in 2012. Dr. Joaly’s research focuses on the development of advanced drug formulations, including nanoparticle-based delivery systems and biodegradable carriers for targeted therapies. Her work has been instrumental in addressing challenges related to drug solubility, stability, and controlled release, particularly in the treatment of chronic and infectious diseases. She has also contributed to the field of pharmacogenomics, advancing personalized medicine through tailored therapeutic approaches. Dr. Joaly has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals, including Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nature Nanotechnology, and Drug Delivery and Translational Research. She is also the editor of the book Advances in Nanotechnology for Drug Delivery. Her research has earned her numerous accolades, including the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Excellence Award and the European Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (EAPB) Innovation Award. As an educator, Dr. Joaly is committed to inspiring and mentoring future generations of pharmacists and researchers. She teaches courses on advanced drug delivery systems, biopharmaceutics, and regulatory science. Many of her students have gone on to make significant contributions to the pharmaceutical industry and academic research. Dr. Joaly is actively involved in international collaborations and serves as a consultant to pharmaceutical companies on innovative drug development strategies. She is a member of the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS) and the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). Additionally, she frequently delivers keynote speeches at international conferences and serves on the editorial boards of leading pharmaceutical journals. Beyond her academic work, Dr. Joaly is passionate about promoting public health and accessibility to medicines. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the Swiss Alps, practicing yoga, and engaging in culinary arts.
