Dr. Chun-Ting Lai is an esteemed optometrist and researcher affiliated with the Department of Optometry at Asia University in Taichung, Taiwan. His academic and clinical endeavors focus on advancing the understanding and treatment of various ocular conditions, particularly those related to retinal health and systemic diseases. In 2019, Dr. Lai co-authored a pivotal study titled "Outcome of Primary Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment Using Microincision Vitrectomy and Sutureless Wide-Angle Viewing Systems," published in BMC Ophthalmology. This research evaluated the efficacy of micro-incision vitrectomy surgery (MIVS) combined with non-contact sutureless wide-angle viewing systems for treating primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. The study concluded that this approach provided favorable anatomical and visual outcomes, highlighting its potential as a standard treatment modality. In 2020, Dr. Lai contributed to the study "Thyroid Eye Disease Not Associated with the Risk for Uveitis: A 13-Year Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study in Taiwan," published in the Journal of Thyroid Disorders & Therapy. This research investigated the potential association between thyroid eye disease (TED) and the incidence of uveitis. The findings indicated that patients with TED did not have a significantly increased risk of developing uveitis compared to the general population, providing valuable insights into the ocular manifestations of thyroid-related conditions. In 2023, Dr. Lai was involved in the case report "Multimodal Imaging of Acute Multifocal Hemorrhagic Retinal Vasculitis: A Case Report," featured in Retinal Cases & Brief Reports. This report detailed the use of various imaging modalities to diagnose and manage a rare case of acute multifocal hemorrhagic retinal vasculitis, underscoring the importance of comprehensive imaging in complex retinal conditions. Dr. Lai's contributions to optometry and ophthalmology reflect his commitment to enhancing patient care through innovative research and clinical practice. His work continues to inform and improve the management of ocular diseases, bridging the gap between optometric research and practical application.

Thyroid Eye Disease not Associated with the Risk for Uveitis: A 13-Year Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study in Taiwan
Author(s): Lin CJ*, Tien PT, Lai CT, Chang CH*, Hsia NY, Lin JM, Yang YC, Bair H, Chen HS and Tsai YY
Purpose: To investigate whether patients with thyroid eye disease (TED) are at increased risk of uveitis.
Methods: Data was collected from the Taiwan National Health Insurance system and included patients newly
diagnosed with TED from 2000 to 2012. The endpoint of interest was a diagnosis of uveitis.
Results: 444 patients with TED yielding1,776 matched comparisons revealed that patients with TED were found to
have no significantly higher risk for developing uveitis. When comparison of TED and non-TED group was stratified
by gender, and age, the association of TED and uveitis was also not significant.
Conclusion: TED is characterized as an extraocular inflammatory disease and uveitis is an intraocular inflammation.
In the largest study of TED in uveitis to date, our finding.. View More»
