Dr. Mahesh Chandrasekharan is a prominent scholar and innovator in the field of chemical engineering, serving as a professor at the University of Connecticut. With extensive expertise in process engineering, material science, and energy systems, Dr. Chandrasekharan’s work bridges fundamental research and industrial applications, addressing global challenges in energy, sustainability, and advanced manufacturing. Dr. Chandrasekharan earned his B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His doctoral research focused on advanced modeling and optimization techniques for multiphase chemical reactors, receiving widespread recognition for its contributions to improving efficiency and scalability in industrial processes. Following his Ph.D., he conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University, exploring innovative materials for renewable energy applications. Since joining the University of Connecticut in 2009, Dr. Chandrasekharan has established himself as a leader in chemical engineering research. His work encompasses a broad range of topics, including catalysis, nanomaterials, and carbon capture technologies. He has been at the forefront of developing sustainable chemical processes, such as waste-to-energy conversion systems and bio-based chemical production methods. His research has led to numerous patents and industrial collaborations, contributing to advancements in clean energy and sustainable manufacturing. Dr. Chandrasekharan has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals such as Chemical Engineering Science, ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, and Energy & Environmental Science. He is also a co-author of the widely used textbook Fundamentals of Chemical Process Design and Optimization. His contributions to the field have earned him numerous awards, including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Process Development Award and the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award.
