Duodenum-Pancreatectomy with Pancreatic Abandonment, Report of the First Case of This Technique in Ecuador

The incidence of malignant tumors of the pancreas has increased in countries of the Asian continent and in Western nations, the mortality of radical respective surgery of the pancreas is less than 3%, the postoperative pancreatic fistula is present in 10%, the associated mortality the development of a post-surgical pancreatic fistula can reach up to 40% 4-5-6-7. We present a clinical case of a patient with adenocarcinoma of the head of the pancreas in which a variant of the classic technique was applied, “leaving” the distal pancreas.
