Mina Hoorfar spent 15 years as a leader and innovator at UBC Okanagan. She is a gifted researcher, educator, and advocate for under-represented groups within engineering. Her area of research focuses on advanced thermo-fluidics related to biomedical and health applications. As head of UBC’s Advanced Thermo-Fluidic Laboratory, her work developing thermos-fluidics solutions has enabled easier and faster detection of pathogens in water, and the optimization of medical diagnosis. Her's research has also led to advancements in the areas of energy (fuel cells), health (rare-cell capture and biomarker detection in breath), and the environment (water quality and fugitive gas leak detection).
