Guazuma ulmifolia: A Review on its Traditional uses, Phytochemistry and Pharmacology

Mutamba (Guazuma ulmifolia Lam.) is perhaps the most useful traditional medicinal plant in India. During the last five decades, apart from the chemistry of the mutamba compounds, considerable progress has been achieved regarding the biological activity and medicinal applications of mutamba. The extracts and metabolites of Guazuma particularly those from leaves and bark possess several useful bioactive compounds and recently additional data are
available on exploitation of these compounds in the various biological activities including antibacterial, antiviral,
antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antisecretory, antitumor, antioxidant and cytotoxicity. It is now considered as a
valuable source of unique natural products for development of medicines against various diseases and also for the
