Biography

Dr. Pedro Nicolau Gabrich is a distinguished urologist affiliated with the Department of Urology at the Rio de Janeiro State University (Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro - UERJ) in Brazil. He completed his medical degree at the Faculdade de Medicina de Petrópolis in 2000. Following this, he pursued residency training in General Surgery and Urology at UERJ, concluding in 2004. Dr. Gabrich further advanced his expertise by earning a Master's degree in Medicine (Urology) from UERJ in 2006 and a Doctorate in Medicine from the same institution in 2014.

    Strategies for Achievement Same-Day Catheter Removal and Hospital Discharge after HoLEP

    Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition in aging men that is often associated with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) and a decreased health-related Quality of Life (QoL). Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) technique constitutes the first-line treatment for BPH, regardless of prostate size. Performing HoLEP in an outpatient setting with bladder catheter removal requires a series of preoperative and perioperative strategies. Early urinary catheter removal before hospital discharge has been shown to be feasible and safe, with a 90-91, 1% success rate.
