Author(s): Quratulain Malik* and Husna Ifthikhar
Plant isolated phytochemicals have been used since ancient times as both primary and supplemental treatment for various ailments as well as to support normal physiological functions. Phytochemical based pharmacological interventions recently received a great attention for the treatment and prevention of inflammatory and chronic diseases including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular, hepatic and neurological diseases. Anti-inflammatory effects of phytochemicals are mediated by the modulatory actions on multifaceted cell signalling pathways including inflammatory transcription factors, cytokines, redox status, protein kinases, and enzymes that generally promote inflammation. Imbalance redox status has been reported to be associated with the pathogenesis of chronic disease. Phytochemicals have the ability to correct oxidative stress by modulating redox status and cure various chronic diseas.. View More»
