Dr. Silvia Valverde is a distinguished scholar in the field of mass spectrometry and a professor at the University of Valencia’s Department of Mass Spectrometry. Renowned for her expertise in analytical chemistry, Dr. Valverde’s research has significantly advanced the application of mass spectrometric techniques in environmental science, pharmaceuticals, and food safety. Dr. Valverde earned her B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona and her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Imperial College London. Her doctoral research focused on the development of high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) methods for analyzing trace contaminants in environmental and biological samples. After completing her postdoctoral studies at ETH Zurich, she returned to Spain to join the University of Valencia. Since joining the University of Valencia in 2010, Dr. Valverde has led numerous groundbreaking research projects. Her work includes the development of novel ionization techniques, advanced tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) methods, and data-driven analytical workflows using artificial intelligence. Her contributions have been instrumental in improving the sensitivity and accuracy of mass spectrometric analyses, with applications ranging from metabolomics to environmental pollution monitoring. Dr. Valverde has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals such as Analytical Chemistry, Mass Spectrometry Reviews, and Journal of Chromatography A. She is also the co-editor of Innovative Applications of Mass Spectrometry, a widely cited reference in the field. Her research has earned her several prestigious awards, including the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) Research Excellence Award and the European Mass Spectrometry Society (EMSS) Innovation Medal.
