Biography

Dr. Abdulwahhab Al-Isa obtained her Ph. D. in obesity/nutrition from Manchester Medical School, UK. Her research interests are in the areas of prevalence of obesity, nutrition, anthropometry, dietary knowledge and practices, body image, socio-cultural aspects of eating, food ideology, food choice, dietary beliefs, factors associated with obesity, metabolic syndrome, socio-demographic and health-related factors associated with metabolic syndrome and biochemical determinants of metabolic syndrome, especially among young people. She have published articles on obesity in international journals and have been described by appreciative some(with my thanks and sorry for the immodesty) as a pioneer in this area, the proof of which is that hardly any article written about obesity and/or nutrition during the last two decades about people in the middle east that does not contain my name as a reference(you may check on this). Other interests are the provision of weight management programmes to the public and serving as consultant in this area. Dr. Abdulwahhab Al-Isa is also very active in visiting, by invitation, public schools to provide same to mothers of kindergarten school children and pupils of higher levels. The new generation, she believes represents a major challenge to control the constantly deteriorating quality of food they consume and in this regard, she have also been involved in providing workshops and lectures to teachers to teach their pupils proper dietary habits. Dr. Abdulwahhab Al-Isa have had numerous TV appearances, talks on radio and several TV and radio programmes, which she used to advise the public on avoiding obesity and proper dietary habits . Numerous articles, for the same reason, have been published in the written media. She have attended and presented papers in over 55 conferences and workshops, some by invitation. In the last two years, she was the first author in four publications and co-author in two. She have published the first ever article on the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among Kuwaiti female adolescents (Arabs}.

Research Interest

My research interests are in the areas of prevalence of obesity, nutrition, anthropometry, dietary knowledge and practices, body image, body mass index, socio-cultural aspects of eating, food ideology, food choice, dietary beliefs, factors associated with obesity, metabolic syndrome, socio-demographic and health-related factors associated with metabolic syndrome and biochemical determinants of metabolic syndrome
