Biography

Dr. Adisorn Ratanaphan is an Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. He recieved his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Prince of Songkla University and M.Sc. in Biochemistry from Mahidol University, Thailand, and Dr. rer. nat. in Biotechnology & Biochemistry from Universität Regensburg, Germany. Upon completion of his doctorate in Regensburg in 1994, he involved in the establishment of the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences where he works. He received post-graduate training at Chiba University, Japan where he conducted mutation research, and attended the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) Course on Biotechnological Processing at Institute of Biotechnology, National University of Mexico, Cuernavaca, Mexico. He joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Technical University of Munich where he carried out studies on high-throughput genotyping of the dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase gene. He visited Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, Berlin, Germany and Institut des Sciences et Ingénierie Chimiques, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland where he earned experience on protein characterization. His current research is focused on functional and structural characterization of mutant BRCA1 proteins that predispose individual to breast and ovarian cancer, and targeting BRCA1 DNA repair pathway by platinum/ruthenium-based drugs in breast cancer chemotherapy.

Research Interest

His research focuses on mechanism of action of anticancer platinum/ruthenium drugs in cancer chemotherapy, targeting BRCA1 DNA repair pathway by platinum/ruthenium drugs in estrogen receptor-positive, estrogen receptor-negative, and BRCA1-associated breast cancers, Mutation screening of breast cancer suppressor gene BRCA1, Functional and structural studies of breast cancer suppressor protein BRCA1, High-throughput genotyping by DHPLC of the dihydro- pyrimidine dehydrogenase gene.
