Dr. Ahmed BaHammam graduated from the College of Medicine, King Saud University (KSU) with honor on 1989. He did his residency training in King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center between 1989 and 1993. Then he joined the University of Manitoba, Canada on 1994 for residency and specialty training in Respiratory, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. He joined King Saud University as an assistant professor on 1998. On 2006, He was appointed as a Professor of Medicine in King Saud University. He started the Fundamental Critical Care Support Course in the Middle East in collaboration with the Critical Care Society (USA) on 1998. They established the first academic sleep disorders center in Saudi Arabia was established on 2001 in KSU. Then They established the first Sleep Medicine Fellowship program in the region in King Saud University on 2009. He is the founder member of the Saudi Thoracic Society on 2003 and the Saudi Sleep Medicine Group on 2007. Then he worked with my colleagues to create and establish the Annals of Thoracic Medicine Journal and acted as the associate editor of the journal. On 2009, the University Sleep Disorders Center was recognized as a research center of excellence in King Saud University. He was awarded the College of Medicine best researcher award on 2009. Additionally, He served as the Governor of the American College of Chest Physicians in Saudi Arabia for two terms (2000-2006) and currently serve as the National Delegate of the European Respiratory Society in Saudi Arabia. He is the Chair of the IRB and a member of the Research Center in the College of Medicine, and the Deanship of Scientific Research at King Saud University. He is a member of the editorial board of the Annals of Thoracic Medicine, Saudi Medical Journal, Annals of Saudi Medicine and Frontiers of Sleep and Chronobiology. He published more than 80 articles in peer review journals, 11 chapters in medical books and presented more than 70 scientific abstracts in local and International scientific meetings. To educate the public about sleep disorders, he established the first Arabic website about sleep disorders on the net “Sleep in Health and Disease” on 2002 (http://sleep-sa.net).
