Allen J. Scott

Biography

Dr. Allen J. Scott holds the rank of distinguished professor with joint appointments in the Department of Public Policy and the Department of Geography at the University of California-Los Angeles. He was elected fellow of the British Academy in 1999, and was the recipient of the Prix Vautrin Lud for 2003. He was awarded the Anders Retzius Gold Medal by the Swedish Society for Anthropology and Geography in 2009. His book “On Hollywood: the Place, the Industry” (Princeton University Press, 2005) won the Meridian Book Prize in March 2006. His most recent book, “The Social Economy of the Metropolis” was published by Oxford University Press in 2008.
