Amy Z Mundorff

Biography

Dr. Mundorff is currently serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology, The University of Tennessee. She is a biological anthropologist specializing in forensic anthropology. Much of her research focuses on Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) and developing new techniques to locate clandestine burials. From 1999-2004, Amy was the Forensic Anthropologist for the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, the City of New York, where she analyzed forensic cases involving unidentified individuals and bone trauma. She also helped direct mortuary operations for several disasters, including the World Trade Center attacks, the crash of American Airlines Flight 587, and the Staten Island Ferry crash. In 2004, Amy left New York to pursue her PhD at Simon Fraser University in Canada. Her PhD research was a retrospective analysis of disaster victim identification from the World Trade Center focusing on techniques used to identify highly fragmented and commingled human remains.
