Dr. Balaji Olety Amaranath is presently at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, USA. He earned his PhD at University of Muenster, Germany working on the roles of unconventional myosin’s in T-cells. Subsequently he did his post-doctoral work at the University of Michigan Medical School, USA on HIV assembly and release where he worked on identification of molecular determinants that regulate HIV-1 Gag membrane binding. He then moved to University of Massachusetts Medical School and currently working on diverse aspects of HIV-1 biology like identifying novel host factors involved in HIV-1 replication and spreading. He has wide experience in the role lipids play during HIV-1 assembly and has expertise in various types of microscopy methods and developed novel in-vitro assays. He has authored numerous articles and presented at international conferences. His work on HIV-1 aims to uncover novel host and viral factors that are potential therapeutic targets for targeting HIV-1 replication and spreading.
