Brian Dale graduated in Biology from the University of Manchester, U.K., and later received his Ph.D. and subsequently his D.Sc. for his contribution to the understanding of basic processes in fertilization and early embryology. In 2010 he was nominated Fellow of the Royal College of pathologists in London, UK. Dr Dale is attributed with the discovery in 1983 of a soluble factor found in spermatozoa that is responsible for the activation of oocytes. His studies span animals and humans from the identification of ion channels in the plasma membrane of gametes to the processes leading to the formation of the human blastocyst. With over 115 publications in international journals and 7 books on the topic, he is also founder and editor of the International Journal “ Zygote” published by Cambridge University Press and founder of Alpha, an International Society for Clinical Embryologists. Dr Dales clinical IVF experience started in the mid-eighties and he is personally responsible for setting up over 20 IVF centres from the UK to the Middle East. He was the first to introduce the technique of ICSI to Italy, Switzerland, Turkey and Saudi Arabia in the early nineties and is co-holder of US and Australian patents for equipment that filter and regulate the air quality in IVF units. Brian Dale is Founder and Owner of CFA- Italy the largest IVF organization in the South of Italy which carry out over 1200 cycles annually(www.CFA-Italia.com) and has introduced many novel techniques such as assisted hatching, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, cytoplasmic transfer and oocyte freezing exclusively to these units. To date over 3000 babies have been born in Italy from these activities. CFA-Italia is a founder and member of the international group www.Ifa-health.com. His consulting experience includes, laboratory design, air filtration, equipment planning, teaching local embryologists, introduction of protocols, quality control procedures, implementation of documentation, interaction with local licensing authorities. Having been a member of the Western Australian Committee for IVF and Regional Committees in Italy for IVF he has experience in formulating guidelines that cover not only the scientific aspects of assisted reproduction, but also the moral and ethical issues.
