Dr. Carpenter received her PhD in Epidemiology from UCLA (1996), and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Preventive Medicine from University of Southern California School of Medicine (2000). Dr. Carpenter’s MPH in Epidemiology/Biostatistics (1987) and BA in Zoology (1975) were received from UC Berkeley.
Dr. Carpenter is conducting several lines of research in obesity, nutrition and cancer risk including examination of diet and exercise effects on the breast microenvironment in obese postmenopausal women, and the role of food addiction and genetic polymorphisms in determining the association between food addiction and obesity. Additional research interests include the modification of dietary effects by genomics in relationship to lung cancer.
