Dr Kaushal is an Associate Professor in the Division of Bacteriology and Parasitology at the Tulane National Research Primate Centre Covington LA with an academic appointment at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology the Tulane University School of Medicine New Orleans LA Since joining TNPRC in 2006 he has been active in the implementation of various aspects of TB research including but not limited to the molecular microbiology studies research aimed at dissecting the role played by various members of the M tuberculosis sigH network including sigE sigB and Rv2745c genes This network is being studied through the use of mutants microarrays cellline and primary macrophages as well as the mouse model His has also developed a rhesus macaque model of TB and of TB/AIDS using natural routes of exposure His lab is leveraging these models to better understand pathogenesis immunopathology latency and reactivation in TB Dr Kaushal is also the Director of the Tulane Institutional DNA Microarray and Expression Core DMEC The core processes spotted 2 color microarrays as well as perform highdimension data analysis from both spotted as well as 1 color Affymetrix microarrays Dr Kaushal work is mainly funded by several institutes and centers at the National Institutes of Health including National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases National Heart Lung and Blood Institute and National Centers for Research Resources He also serves on the editorial board of PLoS ONE.
