Research Interest

Dr. Shukla’s main research interest focuses on cell biology of virus entry into human cells. He has identified host cell membrane receptors for viruses such as herpes viruses. He is currently studying how membrane receptors and membrane morphology facilitate viral infections. Apart from heparan sulfate
proteoglycans, he also studies HVEM, a member of tumor necrosis factor receptor family and nectin-1, a member of immunoglobulin superfamily.
