Dr. Dongbao Chen is Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and the Director of Perinatal Research at University of California Irvine. He received PhD in Reproductive Physiology from China Agricultural University (1991) and postdoctoral training at Baylor College of Medicine (1993-1995) and was a Lalor Fellow at University of Kansas School of Medicine (1995-1998). He was a Research Scientist at University of Wisconsin-Madison (1999-2001) and at University of California San Diego (2001-2003). He was Adjunct Assistant Professor (2003), Assistant Professor (2005), and Associate Professor with tenure (2007) at University of California San Diego. Dr. Chen’s current research accentuates on the regulation of vasodilation and growth of the uterine and placental circulations with a focus on vasodilatory gaseous molecules hydrogen sulfide and nitric oxide, pertaining to pregnancy complications such as intrauterine growth restriction, preeclampsia, and placental accrete. His research has resulted in >80 original research articles, which has been continuously NIH funded since 2001. He has served on many national and international review panels, including numerous NIH study sections.
