Professor Aksam Merched received his Ph.D. in Clinical Biochemistry from the University of Nancy, France doing research in human molecular genetics in cerebro- and cardiovascular diseases. After several years of postdoctorate research at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, he was appointed as a faculty member in the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. In 2013 he accepted a full professor position at the University of Bordeaux, France. Pr. Merched has authored and co-authored more than 80 publications, invited talks, and conference proceedings.
A large part of Pr. Merched’s current research effort consist of understanding the contribution of the immune system to the physiopathology of cardiovascular diseases and cancers. The objective of this research is to identify and design more efficacious targets for immunotherapeutic interventions.
