Biography

Dr Jean-Michel Garcia studied chemistry at the National Graduate School of Chemistry of Lille (ENSCL) in France where he specialized in biochemistry and biotechnologies. In 1998, soon after he graduated as chemical engineer and received his Master Degree from the University of Lille II, he went in Japan at University of Kyoto as researcher mandated by ELF-ATOCHEM for the elaboration of a new family of gradient co-polymer based on the Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP) technology. He then moved to Foundation for Research and Technology- Hellas (FORTH) in Greece where he was involved a multi-disciplinary European project aiming to design and characterize new optical materials for laser technology. In 2000, he returned to France, at Institute of Biology of Lille, to work for his doctoral thesis on the creation and development of a new methodology for high throughput epitope screening by peptide/protein microarray technology. Finally, in 2003, right after obtaining his Ph-D, he joined HKU-Pasteur Research Centre where he is in charge of translational research group. In this current position, his research activity are focused on development of screening for antivirals against HIV, H5N1 & Dengue, elaboration of High Content Flow Cytometry technology for HTS applications and development of Influenza (H5N1) diagnostic.
