After his biochemistry studies at the Free University of Berlin, Germany, PhD thesis work at the Charité, Berlin, and internships at the University of California, Irvine, USA, at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, USA and Cambridge University, UK, Gerd Lindner graduated at the Free University of Berlin (2000). Following post-doctoral research at Hamburg University, Gerd joined the Federal Institute of Risk Assessment, Berlin, a regulatory agency where he developed cutaneous in vitro test systems which should reduce the suffering of animals used in this type of toxicity assessments. After assuming his current position as project leader of organ modeling at the Department of Biotechnology, Technische Universität Berlin (2006), he co-founded the German tissue research biotechnology company, TissUse GmbH in 2010.
Doktor Gerd Lindner researches into hair disorders and the science and applications of stem cells residing in the skin and other organs. He could recently succeed to culture a fully in vitro established human hair follicle equivalent for further integration into a skin equivalent.
