Biography

Dr. Hisham R. Ibrahim is currently a Professor of Biochemistry and Structural Biology at Kagoshima University (Japan). He obtained his Master degree in Biochemistry from Yamaguchi University (Japan) in 1990, and PhD degree in Structural Biology and Protein Engineering from Tottori University (Japan) in 1993. He then become a Research Group Leader in Taiyo Kagaku Research Center (Mie, Japan) and carried out research on developing immune molecules against infectious diseases. In 1995, he became Assistant Professor at Kagoshima University, and pursued a research fellowship in the Center for Antimicrobial Research (CAR), California State Polytech University, Los Angeles (USA). He was appointed as Associate Professor in 2001, and become a Professor of Structural Biology at the Department of Biochemistry & Biotechnology in 2010. He is a Conference Developing Member and Chairman in the American Chemical Society (ACS) as well as in the American Oil Chemists Society (AOCS), and serves as reviewer in over 12 reputable journal of biological chemistry, drug design and drug delivery.

Research Interest

The research focuses on the discovery and design of bio-active peptides and proteins with therapeutic potential for the treatment of infectious diseases, cancers, inflammation and oxidative stress related diseases. The work involves uncovering the molecular mechanisms of bio-active proteins and peptides as a means of developing novel therapeutics and biomedical applications. Other research focus relates mainly to the development of novel drug-delivery system for specific targeting of water-insoluble drugs into their intracellular targets or intracellular infective pathogens by utilizing physicochemical and biological properties of proteins and peptides. A research with a view to explore a novel therapeutic potential of bio-active polypeptides as novel drug targeting molecule for the treatment of complicated human diseases.
