Biography

Dr. Jamil Kazmi is a Professor and the former Chairman in the Department of Geography, University of Karachi, Karachi. He received his doctoral degree in Geography from University of Karachi (1997), and completed his Post Doctoral term from University of Georgia, Athens under the Senior Fulbright Scholarship 1998-99 in the field of GIS/Remote Sensing. Dr. Jamil Kazmi also associated as Research Associate, with the Department of Geography, University of British Columbia, BC, Canada from 2002-2008. Over the past eight years, Dr. Kazmi has conducted projects using GIS for spatial analysis and assessment of land use planning environmental data, urban ecology, emission inventories, and vectors of diseases. He has focused on environmental degradation, disease ecology, air pollution, noise pollution, water quality, and mosquito and turtle habitats. In addition he has completed many EIA projects on dam site development, Highways, wetland reserves, excavation impacts, pesticide dumps, air and noise pollution. He has extensive experience of related work in Pakistan, Canada and USA, and has good knowledge of software for mapping, database development, image processing and manipulation of remote sensing/cartographic data. Teaching is a mission and passion for Dr. Kazmi and has 24 years of teaching experience to his credit both in Asian and North American Universities. He has produced 9 Ph.Ds., two M Phil and co-supervised a Post Doc.  He has published extensively in journals of international repute in the area of his research interests such as the application of Geo-informatics in environmental modeling, disaster managment and disease ecology. He is the editor of five international journals and reviewer of many journals of Geogrpahy and Geo-Informatics. Dr. Kazmi is a recipient of the most prestigious awards such as “ Special Achievement in GIS” by ESRI, USA and “Best University Teacher Award” by Higher Education Commission (HEC), Government of Pakistan.
