Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology
University of Toronto, USA
Jason Matthews received his B.Sc. Degree in Toxicology and Environmental Science from the University of Western Ontario. He completed his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry and Environmental Toxicology at Michigan State University. He then moved to Sweden to train as a postdoctoral fellow in Professor Jan-Åke Gustafsson’s laboratory at the Karolinska Institute. Jason joined the Department of Pharmacology as an Assistant Professor in May, 2006.
Research in his lab is focused on understanding the mechanisms of transcription factor dependent gene activation and repression and studies the aryl hydrocarbon receptor. In addition, ers. he is interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of how environmental chemicals modulate estrogen receptor signalling pathways, resulting in endocrine changes and potential increasing risks of hormone dependent cancer
