Research Interest

Focus of research My field of research is aging, bone related diseases and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). As we know, all of these disorders are the major cause of the top mortality in the World. The goal of my research is to demonstrate the molecular mechanisms of the above diseases. I will briefly describe some of my research interest, contributions and give an outlook on my research plans. 1. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARα, β, γ) are transcription factors that regulate varying cellular processes including lipid and glucose homeostasis. Both PPARα and β are expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells, adipose tissue, macrophages. The activation of PPARα and β exhibits inhibiting the release of inflammatory factors. Based on these backgrounds, I am interested in the effect of PPAR in physiology of vascular cells (smooth muscle cells) and arthrosclerosis. 2. Aging mediates the significant variation of cells. I have found the aging significantly changed epicardial fat function in rat. This variation has been also found to be involved in the mediation of circulating cytokines in rats. Based on this finding, I work on the effect of aging on the heart through epicardial fat. 3. Smooth muscle cells’ modulation is an important mechanism in vascular diseases. I found ADAR1, NEDD8 are the major causes in this process. These discoveries attract my interest on the epigenetic and post-transcriptional studies in smooth muscle cells’ modulation. 4. Osteoporosis and bone cancer are also common in human. I have discovered the importance of bone sialoprotein and bone vascularization in the diseases of bone. These studies have been published in very high journals. Motivation The motivation for my choosing of medical studying is that the diseases are still the threatening for human health. Most of the diseases are still not known by the people. Moreover, the CVDs are still the NO.1 killer of the human. For that reason, I would like to work in the basic medical research to conquer these diseases. Moreover, I also would like to share the research discoveries with my peers and improve the education for the people how to prevent the diseases and enhance their health. For these above reasons, I would like to serve our journal as the editor.
