Biography

Dr. Liu is assistant professor of Immunobiology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He was trained in internal medicine and cardiology at Hebei Medical University and practiced medicine for many years. He received his Ph.D. at Peking University Health Science Center in immunology in 2000.  From 2000 to 2008, he conducted research at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in Microbiology and Immunology and won several awards from AAI and ISICR.  He came to Saint Louis University in 2008 as an assistant professor on the tenure track.  Dr. Liu’s research is currently focusing on studying the roles of cytokines and chemokines in human diseases, with particular interest in exploring the effects of innate immunity in autoimmunity, infectious diseases and cancers. Ongoing projects in Dr. Liu’s lab include focus on investigation of (1) the role of the IL-12 cytokine family in protective immunity directed against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, (2) the role of IL-10 in the pathogenesis of juvenile idiopathic arthritis and SLE, and (3) the molecular mechanisms of chemokine-mediated tumor growth and metastasis.

Research Interest

We are interested in studying the role of cytokine in human diseases, with particular interest in exploring the effects of innate immunity on autoimmunity, infectious diseases and cancers. Ongoing projects in our lab focus on investigation of (1) the role of the IL-12 cytokine family in protective immunity directed against Mycobacterial tuberculosis, (2) the role of IL-10 in the pathogenesis of juvenile idiopathic arthritis and SLE, and (3) the molecular mechanism of chemokine-mediated tumor growth and metastasis.
