Joerg Bluemel

Biography

Joerg Bluemel is currently working as Director Toxicology in Biologics Safety Assessment / Translational Sciences at MedImmune, LLC in Gaithersburg, MD. In his current assignment he is responsible for nonclinical safety assessment and translational strategy of biopharmaceuticals in various disease areas spanning from oncology to CVGI. Prior to his current position, Joerg spent more than 10 years in Neuroscience R&D and was a member of the R&D Senior Management team at Merz Pharmaceuticals GmbH, a German-based pharmaceutical company. During this time, he held several positions with increasing responsibility and headed the department of Nonclinical Safety / Drug Metabolism. Joerg is a German board certified toxicologist and a member of the UK and EUROTOX register of toxicologists. Joerg worked as PhD student on mechanistic analyses of hypersensitivity reactions in Research Toxicology, Bayer AG, Germany and received his PhD in Immunotoxicology from the University of Duesseldorf, Germany.

Research Interest

Immunotoxicology, Nonclinical safety assessment and translational strategy for biopharmaceuticals and small molecule pharmaceuticals in the area of oncology, CNS, CVGI, respiratory, inflammation and autoimmune diseases.
