Biography

Judith Aponte is a Specialization Coordinator of the Community/Public Health Nursing MS Program and of the Community/Public Health Nursing/Urban Public Health MS/MPH Graduate Program HunterBellevue School of Nursing HBSON Hunter College City University of New York CUNY Associate Professor HBSON Hunter College CUNY Dr Aponte received a DNSc in Nursing from Columbia University New York NY NY in 2004 she completed her MSN in Nursing Administration in 1998 and her BSN in 1994 from HBSON NY NY She has reviewed manuscripts of peerreviewed journals on topics related to diabetes The journals include the Revista Panamericana de Salud Publica/Pan American Journal of Public Health and the Hispanic Health Care International HHIC journals Dr Aponte has numerous publications international presentations and has conducted research on diabetes and its risk factors specifically as it affects the Hispanic population She is one of the few US researchers whose work has acknowledged Hispanics as a heterogeneous not homogeneous group and diabetesrelated issues that affect different Hispanic subgroups a step that is critical to identifying disparities and understanding differences among the subgroups in order to develop targeted interventions that promote optimum health and minimize complications.
